Dr. theol. Dr. phil. Hermann Hold, ao.Univ.Prof. i.R., gewerblicher Masseur

Anne Franziska Braun in ihrer Masterarbeit 'The role of endogenous opioids in wanting and liking of social touch' (Wien 2020) deutlich.

Sie frägt "Will social touch become rarer and more intimate if the current COVID 19 pandemic lasts longer or even if there will be others of its kind?" und meint: "People will have to fear more and more physical contact with others ... . ... what will we miss  [by] a person to person physical contact? How will our brains react to it? This is not only an important question in times of pandemic crises, but generally speaking, as the consequences of excessive use of social networks, which in many cases are replacing personal contacts, have not yet been clarified. Psychopathologies related to impairments of social reward processing such as addiction, depression and autism spectrum disorders are also in need of better understanding through research in this area and can be used to improve clinical prevention and treatment." (a.a.O., 40)

"The results of explicit wanting and liking (ratings on VAS) showed no significant differences between the two experimental groups (naltrexone vs. placebo). However, there were found significant differences in the assessment of the different touch stimuli with respect to explicit wanting and liking, i.e. the self-reports were consistent with the preference given at the beginning." (Braun, The role of endogenous opioids in wanting and liking of social touch, 34).

"The results indicate the pleasant function of affective touches, in particular slow CTfibre optimal tactile stimuli, but it remains unclear to what extent they are related to social bonding, as the experimenters were unknown to the participants and it was also not clear which of the two experimenters performed the touches. Harlow's experiments (1958) clearly show that touch in itself is something positive, even essential and existential. But what exactly is the nature of touch in humans, especially in adults who have already lived through a number of very different bonding experiences? Future research is needed to further specify the neurophysiological mechanisms involved and to clarify the role of personal relationships in the function of touch."
